AleshaAlesha has been embryologist at CRM for approximately 12 years and also is laboratory supervisor. She received her bachelors of science degree in biology, chemistry and medical technology. Along with assisting physicians during egg retrievals and transfers and assessing daily embryo quality and development, Alesha helps ensure that CRM’s laboratory maintains the high standards required by certifying agencies. “Being a part of helping people make their dream to have a family come true is very rewarding,’’ says Alesha, who is married to husband, Kevin, and has three children – Hunter, Tabor and Payton.
B.K.B.K. has been CRM’s chief embryologist for 12 years. He does egg retrievals, embryo transfers, micromanipulation, sperm and embryo cryopreservation, and more – “all the fun stuff,’’ he says. B.K. came to the U.S. in 1988 to receive post-doctoral training in reproductive physiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He earned his Ph.D. and received training in human IVF, before coming to CRM in 1993. “The best part of working as an embryologist is that I get to see the fruit of my work in a unique way,’’ he says. “Working with eggs, sperm and embryos and seeing so many cute babies at the annual CRM Mother’s Day party is something that I look forward to.” His family includes wife Anubha, 18-year-old Abhishek and 15-year-old Amit.
DorindaDorinda, a medical laboratory technician, draws blood and processes blood, urine and semen specimens. She has been with CRM nearly 10 years, working previously in education and in a hospital lab. She has two daughters, ages 17 and 9, and one son, age 15.
Mary-AnneMary-Anne is from the Philippines and has been with CRM 14 years. As a medical technologist, she draws blood, processes blood specimens and is responsible for andrology services. “I came here to America to find a better opportunity, learn and acquire more knowledge about new technology, especially in vitro fertilization,” she says. Like many of her co-workers, Mary-Anne, who has two children, describes CRM as an extended part of her family. “I really mean that,’’ she says. “When I came here I had culture shock. They molded me, taught me everything. They are why I am here right now, and still standing strong.”
SandySandy was a phlebotomist for 15 years before going back to school. She became a lab manager and three years ago, joined the CRM family as a medical technologist. She collects blood samples and processes blood and sperm. “There is a great deal of joy in seeing patients reach their dream of being a parent,” says Sandy, who has a 27-year-old son.
VikVik an embryologist and scientist, joined CRM in 2006 after working in a similar capacity in Auckland, New Zealand. He has two master’s degrees, one in clinical embryology from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and one in biotechnology from The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. “I love my job as an embryologist, it is very gratifying,’’ Vik says. “I handle every embryo with the utmost care and respect because I realize that I am handling a potential human soul at the very early stages of life.” Vik also says he understands “the immense struggle/stress a couple goes through to get to the egg retrieval stage and beyond.” In his spare time, Vik enjoys kayaking, traveling, learning about different cultures, and playing cricket, a sport largely unknown in the United States – “it’s kind of like baseball but with a wider bat and different rules,” Vik says.
