How to Donate Your Eggs: The Basics

Posted on October 24, 2025 by Inception Fertility

Becoming an egg donor is a meaningful way to help someone achieve the dream of parenthood. At the Center for Reproductive Medicine (CRM), we understand that this decision is deeply personal. If you’re curious about the journey, here’s what it’s like to become an egg donor at CRM.

Step 1: Checking Your Eligibility

At CRM, ideal egg donors are between 21 and 30 years old, in good physical and mental health, non-smokers, and can provide a detailed family medical history. A high school diploma or GED is required, and college experience is preferred. These requirements help ensure the process is safe for you and effective for those receiving your donation.

Step 2: Starting the Egg Donation Application

The first step in the process is completing our online questionnaire. Here, you’ll share information about your lifestyle, health, and family history. If you meet the initial criteria, you’ll be invited to submit a full donor profile, giving potential recipients a sense of who you are. It’s the beginning of a connection that could change someone’s life.

Step 3: Comprehensive Screening

Next comes an important phase: screening. This ensures that you’re healthy, and it provides important information about your reproductive health. You’ll have a physical exam, blood and urine tests, genetic screening, and an ultrasound to check your ovaries. Our team is there every step of the way to guide you, answer questions, and support you through this process. If you pass all requirements from the in person screening you will have a few telehealth appointments to review your upcoming donation.  This will include meetings with a genetic counselor, mental health counselor, and the Donor Program nurse practitioner.

At the Center for Reproductive Medicine, our matching process is designed to align donor profiles with the specific needs and preferences of our recipients. While many applicants meet our medical and psychological criteria, demand can vary, and not all qualified donors may be selected.

We truly value every individual who applies to our program and appreciate the time, effort, and intention behind each application. However, due to the unique and evolving needs of our recipients, we cannot guarantee placement for every qualified donor. Final acceptance is based on a combination of eligibility and current program demand. Thank you for your understanding and for considering being part of this meaningful journey.

Step 4: Ovarian Stimulation

Once you’re cleared to proceed, the next stage is ovarian stimulation. You’ll administer hormone medications designed to encourage your ovaries to produce multiple eggs for about two weeks. During this period, you’ll come to the clinic for monitoring, including blood work and ultrasounds, to track your progress and ensure the safest, most successful outcome.

Step 5: Egg Retrieval

Once your eggs are ready to be retrieved, you’ll take a trigger shot to release the potential eggs and 36 hours later undergo the egg retrieval procedure. This is a minimally invasive procedure performed under twilight anesthesia and typically takes 20-30 minutes. Most donors are able to return to school or work the next day.

The Reward of Giving

Knowing you’ve helped someone create a family is a rare gift and many donors describe the experience as deeply fulfilling. The process also provides insight into your own reproductive health, making it both rewarding and informative. Additionally, donors at the Center for Reproductive Medicine are compensated $10,000 for their time, effort, and willingness to help others build their family.
