CRM now offers donor egg with the use of My Egg Bank North America

My Egg Bank NA is multi-center network of fertility centers offering a proprietary cryogenic egg vitrification process. The donors available will come from one of the four partner clinics. Each clinic screens and treats all donors using the same predetermined guidelines; e.g. infectious disease testing, genetic testing, and a mental health evaluation including a personality inventory.

History of My Egg Bank North America

Development of technology to effectively cryopreserve (freeze) human oocytes (eggs) began in the mid-1990's, primarily for the purpose of preserving the fertility potential for cancer patients. (Radiation therapy and certain chemotherapies can negatively impact the reproductive system.)

Dr. Zsolt Peter Nagy, Scientific Director at Reproductive Biology Associates in Atlanta was a pioneer in research and development of methods to preserve the fertilization and embryo development potential of frozen eggs. In 2007, Dr. Nagy and his scientific team achieved the most important egg freezing breakthrough based on scientific research initiated in 2004 to explore an alternative way of cryopreservation called "vitrification".

Utilizing this new rapid-freezing technique with egg donors between the ages of 21 to 30, pregnancy rates equal to fresh donor cycles in traditional IVF centers around the world were achieved. Seventeen of the twenty recipients (85%) achieved live birth using vitrified donor eggs. These impressive results were reported in the journal Fertility and Sterility in 2008 (Nagy et al, FS, 2008).

At CRM we have been most fortunate to have Dr. Bhushan K. (BK) Gangrade as our Chief Embryologist. Dr. Gangrade received his PhD from Banaras Hindu University, India in 1984. In 1986, he joined the department of Physiology, University of Kansas Medical Center as a Rockefeller Foundation Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. He then spent the next 6 years studying IVF research and techniques; then in 1993 Dr. Gangrade accepted the position of Laboratory Director at the Center for Reproductive Medicine Orlando.

Dr. Gangrade at the Center for Reproductive Medicine in Orlando is credited for the first birth from Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) and Preimplantation Genetic Diagnostic Testing (PGD) baby in Central Florida. He is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and has authored or co-authored more than 25 publications in the field of mammalian reproduction.

In 2010, the My Egg Bank North America network, of which CRM is a founding member, was established to expand patient access to successful vitrification and thawing protocols. My Egg Bank at CRM is an assisted reproduction resource for women with infertility issues affecting egg quantity and/or quality as well as for women who choose to delay pregnancy who need IVF using donor eggs to achieve pregnancy. Also in 2010, CRM and Dr. Gangrade achieved their first pregnancy and live birth with the use of frozen donor eggs. In 2011, Dr. Gangrade was also privileged to be invited to Japan where he perfected his techniques with the pioneers of vitrification.
